Winter Cycling

In short: perfectly doable, if you bundle up with the right amount and type of layers.

In a slightly longer form…

Temperatures have started to get close to zero Celsius, but it turns out that does not seem to be an unsolvable problem for me. Bundling up a little bit has proved to be enough to make bike rides (or just running errands on a bike) pleasant.

So here is what I have found that works for me:

  • Neck gaiter, covering the neck
  • A second neck gaiter, twisted and turned into a toque.
  • Gloves.
  • Long pants. Duh!
  • A pretty thin Patagonia down jacket that I got on sale precisely for this. The color is the ugliest, but hey, 70% off!

And that’s pretty much it.

Now, whenever it starts snowing, I will declare the biking season finished until April next year. Being out on my bike makes wonders to my mental health, but there is a limit to what I am willing to do in order to be out on my bike.

By the way, I should probably introduce Otto properly, but that would be in a separate post.
