Vallecas Entera...

… se va de borrachera.

I don’t miss Madrid much, or to be more acurate, I don’t think about Madrid much (it’s been 20+ years since we left) but I do miss Vallecas, and in particular, I miss the idea of Vallecas, and what Vallecas represents. Some of my best memories of Madrid are somewhat linked to Rayo.

Today Rayo won something, or classified for something… who cares. I am not a sports fan, but even if I was, this is not about football, this is about something else. We don’t win often in Vallecas.

I am really happy for my former neighbours.

The Guardian, as usual, tells the story beautifully. The author of the article really understands what Vallecas represents and what role Rayo plays in the fabric of the barrio.

There is something about Vallecas, Madrid’s self-consciously working class, left-wing neighbourhood, and the team that represents it.

Hell, yes, there is.
